The Charleston Port has been affected by a couple of unexpected factors that have quickly intensified a regular seasonal volume increase into a concerning situation. Some updates on the current situation are:
The current vessel wait time is one week.
The Toe Wall Project is moving along faster than expected. Construction on one of the berths will be paused for two weeks around the 4th of July, returning the Wando Welch Terminal to three berths to allow them to catch up.
The expected average anchorage wait time for the Wando terminal will be under 72 hours by the end of June, and there will be no wait time/anchored vessels by the end of July.
Construction will resume in August. They expect a 48-hour wait time and to berth three vessels 70% of the time by November/December.
